Season Highlights
The SMV 15-1 Snakes capped off a very successful season with a 10th place finish at AAU Nationals. Their final record for the season was 62 wins and 19 losses. Highlights of the season were: Winning the Frostbite Festival 16’s division and the 16’s division of the SMV Spring tournament. Finishing 2nd at the Presidents Day Festival and also 2nd in the 16’s division of the Rochester Cup. In the Northern Lights power league, our overall record was 19-3 and we made it to the prestigious Court 1 for the final play date winning all 3 matches that day. We also filled in for an absent team the last 18’s PL date and went 2-1 that day.
The AAU Tournament was a great experience for the team. They did not have an easy match the whole 4 days and showed their determination against every opponent with many close wins and loses including 10 two point games that even had me out of my seat a few times. Their final record was 7 wins and 5 loses coming up against two tough teams from Puerto Rico and Hawaii and the NL 15-2’s on day 3 which knocked them out of the gold bracket. They came back on day four winning two 3 games matches against another Puerto Rican team and a very good defensive team from Indiana before losing to NL 15-3’s and finishing 10th (out of 56 teams). A great showing for SMV!!
This team took the role of “underdog” very seriously!! With our average height of 5’7”, we surprised many teams with our tenacious defense and never give up attitude. The experience they gained throughout the season was immeasurable. We played teams from MN, IA, WI, NE, IL, CA, TX, NC, IN, VA, Hawaii and Puerto Rico and didn’t back down from anyone. These girls played with a lot of heart all season and it was a joy coaching them. A special thank you to all the parents for your great support and the opportunity to work with your daughters…a very talented and special group of young ladies!!

The SMV 15-1 volleyball team participated in the 16’s age group during the recent one day tournament held on 5/20 at the National Volleyball Center in Rochester. After six matches, SMV 15-1 took home first place medals in the top bracket while going undefeated. Nineteen teams competed in the 16 age level bracket. In the championship bracket, SMV 15-1 competed against top teams from the south metro area. SMV 15-1 defeated Burnsville 16B in the quarter final game. The semi-final game opponent, Burnsville 16G, was the next obstacle between SMV 15-1 and the championship game. SMV 15-1 won this match in two games to earn their opportunity in the championship game against a talented team of metro players, Northern Lights 16-3. During the championship game, SMV 15-1 won the first game, 25-20. The final game saw SMV 15-1 return from a six point deficit (22-16) to win 27-25.
